ARDEX A46 – Rapid Hardening Mortar for External Repairs

Overview

ARDEX A46 is a fast-setting, rapid-drying, slump-free mortar designed for external concrete repairs. It’s perfect for resurfacing and repairing concrete stairs (treads and risers), subfloors, and for patching cracks in walls, ceilings, door and window frames. It can also be used to form ramps between 2 mm and 30 mm in depth.

Once mixed, the mortar sets within 15–20 minutes and can handle foot traffic after just 2–3 hours at 20°C.

Surface Preparation

ARDEX A46 can be applied to both dry and damp substrates, as long as they are firm, fully set, and free of contaminants like dust, grease, oil, and dirt.

For worn or high-traffic areas, mechanically abrade the surface using a diamond grinder or scarifier to remove contaminants and roughen the surface for proper adhesion.

Priming is generally not required—unless the surface is extremely porous. In such cases, use ARDEX P51 as a primer. Ensure subfloor temperatures are between 10°C and 30°C during application.
